Purple Maize Farm

    Community Supported Agriculture

    Picture
Enjoy a weekly share of outrageously delicious, unusually colored heirloom varieties of your favorite garden veggies.  We value the history and tradition that's preserved in heirloom seeds, many which are only still available because generations of farmers and gardeners have preserved and passed them along.  Many of these varieties are cherished for their delectable flavor and beautiful colors but are easily damaged and must be handled delicately, thus they have fallen out of the favor of conventional agriculture.

We believe that food should not only be pleasing to the palate, but pleasing to the eyes. We offer a very limited number of CSA shares and strive to fill each week's basket with a variety of produce our share members can use to create their own edible works of art. We offer only one size share for $20 per week.  Pick up your share in front of Nona Lisa Pizzeria in Watertown on Wednesday afternoons or at the DeKalb County Farmers' Market in Smithville on Saturday mornings.  Click here for detailed information about our CSA and how to sign up.

    The Farm

    Picture
Our farm is located in Vandergriff Hollow, off Dry Creek in Dowelltown, Tennessee.  Butterflies, dragonflies, swallows, bats, and fireflies can all be found filling the air on summer evenings.  We value biodiversity and encourage an entourage of wild neighbors (hopefully not including the deer) to visit our farm.  We are not certified organic, but our devotion to protecting the environment and producing food using ecologically sound practices ensures that we never use harsh synthetic chemicals for either pest control or fertilization.  Instead we use insecticidal soaps and the ultimate organic pest control: hand picking.  The neighborhood chickens love Japanese beetles and potato beetle larvae.

    Where to find our produce
